My Lotus Diary September 2004Previous Entry | Diary Index | Next Entry
16th December 2004Road and Track magazine feature a 2+2 coupe Elise based model, which they claim is due to deliver on the old M250 (remember that?) promise.
Some interesting views around now from people that have lived with the 111R for a decent length of time. The biggest complaint seems to be one of odd noises from the clutch and other places. Those that have upgraded fromk a K-series are probably not complaining though. It must be peaceful after a K-series gearbox chattering away behind you. Generally build quality seems to be improving but, the second biggest complaint still seems to be the paint finish on some cars leaving the factory.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing is that new owners seem to expect to pick up a new Elise and have no problems at all! I'm not having a go at Lotus here because my own Elise was excellent as was the dealership in resolving problems but, I have never bought a new car and not had a problem of some sort occur in the first 12 months of ownership. Out of my Rovers, Mazda, Subaru and Lotus cars owned from new, the Lotus was the best in this respect but there were still some minor problems with it that need resolving by the dealership. I have not got time to catalogue all the problems I had on my Subaru Impreza Turbo in two years of ownership! New cars, new technology, new installations always equates to new problems. My Mazda 6 has had two recalls in the first 18 months.
